Creative Santa Fe announced today that the nonprofit will host a major public collaborative community event on June 15, 2013 from 4pm to 11pm, The FantaSe Community Festival. The Festival will celebrate the opening ceremony of the newly re-invigorated DeVargas Park. This re-opening of the DeVargas Park/Skate Park marks the initial phase of the El Parque del Rio renovation, which include plans for increased walkability between city centers such as the Plaza, the Santa Fe Railyard, and the new Luna District. This event will also be a venue for CrSF to present plans for an annual off-season festival, FantaSe Festival of Lights.

"I am thrilled that Creative Santa Fe is playing a key role in re-opening DeVargas park with the FantaSe Festival,” said CrSF Executive Director Cyndi Conn. “With over 25 collaborators and counting, our city is coming together to make this a truly collaborative event. This is also an important moment to explore real opportunities for Santa Fe to be a more walkable and connected city and examine the potential impact of an annual light festival to launch as soon as 2014."

The event will kick off with the 64th Annual Rodeo de Santa Fe Parade at 3:00 pm. The Rodeo Parade will begin at the P.E.R.A building parking lot on Paseo de Peralta and Old Santa Fe Trail and will stop at DeVargas Park at approximately 3:30 pm with a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Rodeo de Santa Fe by Mayor David Coss. The afternoon and evening will feature live bands, DJs, a fashion show, skate boarding demonstrations, innovative and interactive light installations, art projects, unique shading structures, food trucks, and other presentations from collaborators.

Located equidistantly between the Railyard and the downtown plaza, DeVargas Park is a critical anchor for a long-range path to downtown walkability. Detailed renderings of the development of the entire Parque del Rio will be on display for the community to envision a walkable, sustainable, and connected city featuring a green multi-modal trail and city spine for residents and visitors alike.

A key reason we are hosting the FantaSe Festival is to highlight downtown walkability and connectivity. When residents and tourists are on foot they spend more money locally which keeps dollars at work in our city. To that end, we created the FantaSe Pass.

From 11am - 8pm on June 15 participating downtown businesses will offer special discounts and giveaways for FantaSe Pass holders who stop into their businesses and get their passes signed... 2 for 1 ice cream cones at Häagen Dazs, restaurant discounts, free headbands at Cupcake Clothing, $50 purchases at Aspen Optical, and much much more!

Signed passes can be returned to DeVargas Park during the festival and we will draw a winning pass for fabulous door prizes (including a free two-night stay at Sage Inn) every hour between 5pm to 9pm.

In collaboration with New Mexico Arts, CrSF released a call for proposals for local artists or artist teams for a site-specific temporary light-based art commission art projects for this one-day event. To see the call for proposals, go here

This call for proposals is the first step to introduce the concept of a major winter light festival in Santa Fe envisioned as a city-wide annual collaborative event to inspire residents and draw new tourism in the off season with a substantial economic impact on our city.
