DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Dayton has a rich history in funk music. The Ohio Players got its start here. Now, the city will be home to the Funk Hall of Fame and Museum.
Dayton Mayor Gary Leitzell and members of the Dayton Funk Dynasty Group made the official announcement Friday. Legendary funk artist Thomas Shelby of the Dayton group, Lakeside, was on hand as well.
The Funk Hall of Fame is phase one of bigger plans called the Funk Entertainment Epicenter.
Future plans include a funk-inspired restaurant, a Funky Walk of Stars, the development of a record label called Dayton Fly Records and much more.
The group is looking for support from national celebrities to join efforts to get the museum up and running.
You can "Give Back to the Funk" by visiting any Chase Bank and make a donation to the Funk Hall of Fame and Museum.
The Funk Hall of Fame and Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of funk music.
