Friday, May 3rd would have been the 80th birthday of the Godfather of Soul...James Brown. A few interesting facts about the Godfather include; He never had a top 100 record. I..Know I was shocked. He was friends with Ronald Reagan and Nixon...Whaat? (That's what the African American community said) He was dissed for his connection to both. He was a hardworking man, songs like "I don't want nobody to give me nuthin..open up the door..I'll get it myself" and the lyric "I've got mine..go on get yours" speak to his work ethic.
Most of all he lifted up a nation of African Americans, especially children, who for the first time in their lives were told to "Say it Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud", thinking about the impact on what that must have been like for these young people brings tears to my eyes. Beautiful!
James Brown was a controversial, complicated, talented, man...in a Man's World...He is one of a kind...he is missed.
Blessing to all you Funksters out there,
