I was so sad when I heard that the frontman for the Ohio Players, 'Sugerfoot' Bonner, had passed away and I wanted to put together a Friday Funk that not only celebrated his musical genius but the amazing talented funky music of Ohio. There must be something in the water because so many of my favorite funk bands/artists began in Ohio.

Dayton, Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati...The breeding ground for the likes of Lakeside, Slave, Heatwave, Sun, Dazz Band, Faze O, Zapp and Roger, Bootsy Collins, Levert, O'Jays, The Deele (Babyface, L.A. Reid, were in the Deele). A Plethera of funky talent. Nice to pay tribute to a great musician by celebrating the musicians...and let me really emphasize...Great Musicians...from Ohio.

I opened up the set with Ohio Players version of "Over the Rainbow" and cried tears. Farewell to an amazing talent..playing that funky music in the funk band in the sky.

God Bless,

ps. It was Rick James Birthday so I closed out with a set for him.
