Uncle Jesse of Outlaw Country Picks His Favorite Music of 2012

He strays off the beaten path some, as usual...

January 2, 2013 • Uncle Jesse

Here’s my list of favorites from the 2012 new arrivals:

01) Willie Nelson & Friends – Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die
Willie sounds like he’s having more fun than he’s had in ages, and the guest stars are great.  Where else are you gonna hear Snoop Dogg (or Snoop Lion, or whatever) in a country song?
02) Kip Moore – Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck
Darn catchy.  This is the one that got him serious national attention (it went to #1 nationwide).  We’ll see if he can keep it up!
03) Eric Church – Springsteen
If you were tuned in to country radio anywhere in 2012 you couldn’t escape hearing this one.  One of Outlaw’s most requested of the year to boot.
04) Anthony Leon & the Chain – Sons
New Mexico act from their awesome first CD, expecting a follow-up in 2013.  For the zillion of you who asked, the disc is available at CDBaby.
05) Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw – Feel Like a Rock Star
It came out months ago and it’s STILL stuck in my head.  Great bassline.  So what if it was a stunt song to promote the “Brothers of the Sun” tour?
06) Clay Walker – Jesse James
So many of you asked for it after Clay played Buffalo Thunder we had to steal it from his website to get it into the library.  Outlaw supreme.
07) Merle Haggard – Too Much Boogie Woogie
My favorite off Merle’s “Working in Tennessee” album, which is a pretty good album and which, unfortunately, almost no one’s ever heard.
08) Thomas Rhett – Beer with Jesus
Following in his daddy’s (Rhett Akins) footsteps, Thomas proves the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.  Can’t wait to sneak this one in at Tiny’s karaoke.
09) Eric Church – Drink in My Hand
Party anthem of the year.  Glad to see Eric’s finally getting love across the country radio board.  Now if only he’d come through Santa Fe.
10) Kenny Chesney – El Cerrito Place
It was pointed out to me this is a Charlie Robison cover.  Got its hooks into me deep and won’t let go.  Almost impossible for me not to sing along with.
