Taos, a historic town located about 1.5 hours north of Santa Fe, is most famous for its pueblo, a three-story dwelling made of sun-baked mud, where dance days and feast days are held throughout the year. But it's also famous for being home to actress Julia Roberts.

The Taos Plaza offers shopping and dining opportunities, anchored by La Fonda, an historic hotel that contains gallery of censored paintings by D.H. Lawrence. Nearby museums include the Harwood Center, exhibiting work by Taos Colony artists, and the Millicent Rogers Museum, which showcase  jewelry collected by an oil heiress. Taos also has some of the best skiing in the Southwest.
