Bandelier National Monument

This fascinating ruin of a pueblo dating to 1150 includes dwellings and a ceremonial kiva constructed high in a rock cave reached by a system of ladders. Bandelier offers a rare glimpse into the past, with an interpretative visitor's center and gift shop.

There are miles of hiking trails that lead into the back country, where you can camp, but the main point of interest is the short trail that leads you through the ruins of a Native American settlement, complete with cliff dwellings, ground dwellings and the kiva. It's located about an hour northwest of Santa Fe.
