Listen to art on the radio with ArtBeat, hosted by Kathryn M Davis, every Friday morning from 11 to noon on KVSF, 101.5, the voice of Santa Fe.
On this week's podcast from the show that aired on August 16th, for Indian Market weekend ArtBeat delves into an issue that is more common than we might wish: the misappropriation of Native culture through stereotypical iconography. Paul Frank fashions, in partnership with the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, announces the debut of its collaboration with four indigenous designers. The fashion collection will be showcased during a panel and event—free and open to the public—at MoCNA on Friday, August 16 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Appearing on the radio show are Adrienne Keene of Native Appropriations with Tracy Bunkoczy, Paul Frank’s VP of Design as they discuss brand collaboration, the background story and the creation of the collection, and the development of proactive Native partnerships in the fashion world.
