La Junta began combining various musical styles in 2004, influenced by genres such as latin, reggae, hip-hop, rock, blues and jazz. They started off playing college house parties, then began gigging at local bars and pubs, since then they have released 4 albums, won two NM Music Awards, and have gone on a couple of west coast tours. Their annual Sol of Santa Fe benefit concert is going 4 years strong and has helped raise thousands of dollars for various children’s organizations dedicated to art and music programs.
Espanola’s The Imperial Rooster play an out there mix of folk, blues, country, & rock and roll that can only be described as GONZO ROOTS MUSIC. Like if Nick Cave and Tom Waits had a baby and that baby covered Johnny Cash songs with the Violent Femmes backing him up but used lyrics written by Hunter S Thompson and William Burroughs. We know this description is ridiculous. Maybe you should just come to this show and find out for yourself why their 2014 appearance is their third in as many years.
