As a program of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation Shops (MNMFShops), the mission of the New Mexico Creates is to promote and strengthen New Mexican creative entrepreneurs, to offer visitors and New Mexico citizens the best of New Mexico created in New Mexico and to support the divisions of the Museum of New Mexico.
New Mexico Creates enhances the livelihoods of New Mexican artists and artisans through a model of economic self-sufficiency. The program provides an important component in the economic development of New Mexico. Through taking a market driven and mission focused approach, the MNMF Shops have worked with artisans and artists statewide. The buyers have met with over 700 artists in their communities throughout the state logging 5,000 travel miles in the process. These artist meetings provide not only an opportunity for artists to present their work but for them also to receive technical assistance in making the artwork market-ready. New Mexico Creates website is now the largest website in the world for New Mexico arts and crafts featuring over 3,800 products from 1,200 New Mexican artists, artisans and authors. The website provides a powerful opportunity for New Mexico’s cultural entrepreneurs who do not have access to website development to present their artwork or product on a website that has traffic of over 30,000 visitors a month.
