The positive place for girls in Santa Fe.

Girls Inc. of Santa Fe

Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.

Our Mission is "Inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold." Our Vision is "Empowered girls in an equitable society." We serve girls ages 5 – 18 at our Hillside Center in Downtown Santa Fe. We provide research-based programming in safe, affordable and dependable out-of-school-time care, both after school and during school breaks, as well as several outreach programs. We are the positive development organization for girls in Santa Fe.

Since 1955, Girls Inc. of Santa Fe has been a strong advocate for the changing needs of girls and young women in the Santa Fe community. Girls today experience intense pressure at ever younger ages to be everything to everyone all of the time. While stereotypes about girls' leadership capabilities and science and math capabilities appear to have diminished in the past years, expectation about physical perfection - dressing "right" and being thin - seem to have increased. New Mexico is challenged by drastic school drop-out rates, a high incidence of teen pregnancy, and an alarming rate of violence against women and children. Girls Inc. of Santa Fe provides girls with research-based programs proven to help girls stay in school and prepare for financial independence while avoiding teen pregnancy and violence.

We are deeply passionate about inspiring girls and supporting them as they develop the skills and self-confidence to navigate successfully through the challenges of growing up female. We intervene to help girls develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable them to make the best decisions for themselves.

Our learning programs are experiential and fun. Girls often say that their time at Girls Inc. is when they feel the safest, both physically and emotionally. Learning is supported by field trips, community projects, arts and crafts, special mentoring and other techniques where girls experience the heritage, culture and diversity that make Santa Fe unique, as they interact with role models. Our research-based programs are developed by the Girls Inc. National Resource Center and other Girls Inc. affiliates, and are tailored to meet the needs of Santa Fe girls.

Our programs cover Careers and Life Planning, Health and Sexuality, Leadership and Community Action, Sports and Adventure, Self-Reliance and Life Skills, and Culture and Heritage.
