2013 - 2014 Mattress Firm Athlete of the Week

Hutton Broadcasting is joining forces with long time Santa Fe - High School Sportscaster Carl Twibell to bring the 2013/2014 High School Football and Basketball season to our KVSF 1400 AM listeners.
Games will be broadcast on ESPN 1400 KVSF-AM.

Follow each week's Athlete of the Week brought to you by Mattress Firm where you Save Money and Sleep Happy.

Each week one Football or Basketball player will be chosen and awarded with the title of Athlete of the week!

 

September 9 - 15, 2013

St. Michael’s senior running back and linebacker Daniel Ortega. Ortega rushed for 163 yards, caught 4 passes, scored 4 touchdowns and played terrific defense, in the Horseman win over St. Pius.

September 16 - 22, 2013

St. Michaels High School senior defensive end and fullback Isaiah Dominguez.  Dominguez led the horseman defense with 7 tackles and 5 quarterback sacks.  He also carried the ball 6 times for 25 yards and a scored one of the horseman touchdowns in the victory over Lovington.

 

September 23 - 29, 2013

St. Michaels High School special teams’ player Julio Cesar Garcia.  The junior kicker was a perfect six for six on extra point attempts (PAT’s) in Saturday’s big 50 to 0 win over the Robertson Cardinals.  This is in addition to his kickoff duties.  He has now converted on13 of 17 PAT’s (point after touchdown) this season.

 

September 30 - October 6, 2013

St. Michael’s offensive and defensive lineman Chad McNamara.  The junior lineman was credited for playing an outstanding game on offense and defense in the Horseman win over Santa Fe.  He helped open holes for St. Mikes running backs from his offensive tackle spot, and helped control the Santa Fe offense with an outstanding effort on the defensive side of the ball.

 

October 7 - 13, 2013

Capital High School defensive back and wide receiver Manuel Segura.  The Jaguar junior intercepted a St. Mikes pass on the defensive side of the ball, and then helped set up the Capital touchdown with a terrific 53 yard run to the Horseman 2 yard line.

October 14 - 20, 2013

Santa Fe High School Safety and Tight End Mario Holladay:  The Demon senior rushed for over 80 yards and scored a touchdown for the Santa Fe offense.  He also intercepted a pass and had 9 tackles for the Demon defense in the win over Espanola Valley.

 

October 21 - 27

The Santa Fe High School Offensive Line which includes Center Johnny Loera; Guards – Harlan Miller and Elijah Alva; Tackles - Nathaniel Duran and Angel Ramirez and Tight Ends Mario Holladay and Isaac Romero.  This group helped Santa Fe rush for over 300 yards in the Demons district win over Los Alamos.

October 28 - November 3

St. Michaels quarterback Keith Dominguez.  The Horseman senior completed 12 of 22 passes for 261 yards and 2 touchdowns in the big win over Silver High School.
Dominguez has helped lead the Horseman to an 8 and 0 record so far this season.

November 4 - 10

St. Michaels running back Nathanyal Leyba.  The Horseman junior rushed for 2 touchdowns and caught a pass for a third touchdown in the Horseman win over Albuquerque Academy.  He also rushed for over 100 yards.

November 11 - 17

Santa Fe linebacker Sevastion Gurule.  The Demon senior was credited with 6 solo tackles, 6 assisted tackles, 2 sacks and also caused a fumble in the Demons win over Capital.

December 2 -  8

Santa Fe High School’s Isaiah Taylor:  The junior linebacker led the Santa Fe defense in tackles in the State Playoff game against Centennial High School.

January 6 - 12

St. Michaels junior Bradley Vaughn.  The horseman point guard scored 14 points, including 10 of 14 shooting from the free throw line in the 4th quarter.  And he helped the St. Mikes offense control the tempo of the game in the victory over Espanola.

January 13 - 19

Santa Fe High junior Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage.  The Demonette post player helped lead the Santa Fe High girls to the Championship of the Sandia Prep Tournament.  She scored 22 points in the championship game and was named the Tournaments Most Valuable Player.
