If all of the world is a stage, then bringing the world to one stage is quite a feat, and a local organization plans to do just that on Saturday, November16th at 7 PM, with a benefit headlined by artists sharing traditions as diverse as Santa Fe dancer Elise Gent with D’jeune D’jeune sharing their dynamic Afro-Haitian rhythms, Bollywood and Classical Kathak dance from India performed by Alina Deshpande, and Afro-House — a conscious fusion of West African dance and funky House choreographed by Jaime Duggan. Spoken word and song by the soulful Shayla Dawn completes the evening.
A fundraiser for the Golden Acorns Summer Camp of the Living Arts and Culture, Inc. Scholarship Fund, the program also includes a silent auction, delectable treats in a child-friendly environment.
Now in its sixth year, the camp is committed to scholarship assistance that assures all children in the community can participate. Founder, Helen Wildman Meehan shares: “We believe that when children are exposed to diverse cultures and an environment that encourages compassionate communication and problem solving, they will become leaders who foster change in their communities, and their world”.
