New Exhibition Opening
Maria Martinez's life is the story of pueblo pottery. Living at San Ildefonso Pueblo, Maria was an innovator in both the science of pottery making and the art of decoration. As matriarch, her influence is felt today through the works of her extended family who continue make black-on-black, polychrome, inlaid and sienna pottery.
This project was funded through the generosity of R. Kirk Landon and Pamela Garrison. Alan Powell and Dean Pulver, both of Taos, designed the exhibition. Members of Maria's family including Barbara Gonzales and Cavan Gonzales provided consultation for the exhibition.
Funding of the in-development web-based educational platform on Maria was provided by a private funder.
