The Durango Blues Train is expanding to two weekends in 2014, May 30 and 31st and August 22 and 23rd. Presented by the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, this unique "moving experience" takes place aboard the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in Durango, Colorado for three unforgettable hours. Each evening features a stellar lineup of six live blues acts, to passengers traveling aboard the historic coal-fired, steam-powered train as it winds through the spectacular canyons of the Colorado San Juan National Forest.
"As we approach our fourth annual event, the addition of another two days of the Durango Blues Train in late August, is a testament to the growing popularity of the experience," said Steve Gumble, founder of the Durango Blues Train. "When you get right down to it, trains and blues are a natural fit. The rhythm of the train on the tracks provides the beat for our blues musicians! There are very few music experiences like this in the United States."
The month of May's Durango Blues Train takes place, May 30th and 31st, and is only one week away! We're excited to feature award-winning musical guests Big Sam's Funky Nation, The Sugar Thieves, Todd & The Fox, Robby Overfield, Kipori Woods, The Bottoms Up Blues Gang, Eddie Turner, C.W. Ayon, Johnny Long, Chris Dracup, and Gino Matteo.
An evening on the Blues Train treats passengers to a musical journey on the 132 year old Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge steam powered train. Each blues musician performs in their own personal vintage coach car, while passengers are free to dance and sample the different musical acts by traveling from one rail car to next. Each evening will feature a solo act, a duo, and then two full bands, each offering an intimate concert aboard the historic train. Passengers will also experience breathtaking views of the San Juan National Forest including the "Highline," a world famous section of railroad crawling along cliffs high above the Animas River. You don't have to be into the blues music to enjoy the Durango Blues Train, and this train is sure to be a memorable musical journey.
Guests can enjoy a beer and wine cash bar with light snacks while riding the train. Tickets are $95 per person, plus a 7% Historic Train Preservation fee. Tickets are extremely limited and purchasers must be 21 years old to participate.
