THE ARMORY SHOW
In the late 1970s many artists came together for a series of major exhibitions, housed in the old armory buildings in Santa Fe. These independently organized art shows evidenced a rich community of artists, working together to create new opportunities for themselves and their peers. These exhibitions, many bearing the title, The Ar- mory Show, were important - not only in bringing artists together, but also in cementing the Armory site as one of Santa Fe’s most import- ant cultural centers.
As CCA celebrates its 35th anniversary, The Armory Show is revisited. Less a historical reenactment and more a survey of stylings, creations, and people, The Armory Show celebrates the artists who have made Santa Fe an arts mecca. Select artists from the early Armory Show exhibitions have been invited to submit new work. Other established artists have been asked to invite a representative group of younger or lesser-known artists to participate alongside them. Over 100 Santa Fe-based artists are included, with many local partners contributing to concurrent public programming. The Armory Show of 2014 will be a celebration of old and new, focusing on the role of artists in creating Santa Fe.
