Santa Fe, NM – A fundraiser for Southwest CARE Center, the 4th Annual Closet Ball will be held on Saturday, April 28th, 2012 at 7:30 at the Lodge at Santa Fe, 750 North St. Francis Drive. $10 open seating, purchased at the door only. The show begins at 8:00 pm. The event raises money to support medical needs of people living with HIV/AIDS in New Mexico.
For the 4th year in a row, producer Michael Kaplan presents a fabulous and unique show that has been a successful fundraiser for Southwest CARE Center. The Closet Ball consists of all male contestants, non professional drag queens, who go through a transformation from male to female within the course of the night. The evening begins with each man presenting himself to the audience and then within an hour, magically transforming into a beautiful (we hope) female persona complete with a performance with choreography and music of their choice. Guests of the event vote for their favorite contestant with their dollars. Collected votes go to the AID & Comfort Fund at Southwest CARE Center. Other entertainment throughout the evening consists of a performance by the dance troupe "Golden Ohm" from Albuquerque and other performers. There will be a cash bar and guaranteed surprises during the night. So come and get your drag on! That might be your neighbor (or your son) beneath the wig and makeup)
Southwest CARE Center was founded in 1996 by Medical Director, Trevor Hawkins, MD to provide comprehensive treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS in our community. Southwest CARE Center represents the integration of eight free standing HIV/AIDS agencies, thereby cutting down on administrative overhead and allowing the Center to continue the good work of treatment, case management services, research, pharmacy, behavorial health and prevention and education for HIV positive individuals in New Mexico. Now serving close to 700 people living with HIV/AIDS , the center continues to be recognized as a center of excellence in the field of HIV/AIDS care.
