Event Description

A. R. Gurney’s hilarious and heartwarming comedy SYLVIA is a romantic triangle that involves a man, his wife, and his dog. Greg (Jonathan Richards) returns to his Manhattan apartment early one afternoon with Sylvia (Tallis Rose), a stray dog he has found in Central Park. Greg’s wife Kate (Barbara Hatch) is not amused, and soon the situation threatens, as Kate says, “to take a bite out of a twenty-two-year marriage.” The three other characters are all played by Nicholas Ballas: Tom, a dog owner, Phyllis, a family friend, and Leslie, a therapist.

At the original New York production (which launched the career of Sarah Jessica Parker in the title role,) The New York Times said “Dramatic literature is stuffed with memorable love scenes. But none is as immediately delicious and dizzy as the one that begins the redeeming affair in A. R. Gurney's new comedy, Sylvia.” And the New York Daily News raved "I can only call it one of the most involving, beautiful, funny, touching and profound plays I have ever seen…"
