Event Description

IDEAS in Psychiatry, an educational institute in the UNM Department of Psychiatry, presents Dr. Maria A. Oquendo from Columbia University to discuss suicide and her research related to risk factors and minority populations. Dr. Oquendo's expertise includes bipolar disorder and major depression, with a special emphasis on suicidal behavior and cross cultural psychiatry. Her recent honors include two Exemplary Psychiatrist Awards from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Research Award.

Based in the Office of Community Engagement, IDEAS in Psychiatry was created to provide useful, accurate and up-to-date information about mental illness through public educational programming.
