The power of the sun – and the employment opportunities connected to it – will be on display during Santa Fe Community College’s second annual Solar Festival, to be held 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 5 at SFCC’s Trades and Advanced Technology Center, 6401 Richards Ave. in Santa Fe. And like sunlight, the event is free.
While musicians perform solar-powered music, visitors can view an electric car show, solar product demonstrations and exhibits by solar vendors. Solar seminars will be held throughout the day and activities will be available for children. SFCC’s green technologies faculty will be on hand to discuss training and job opportunities within the green building and energy efficiency industries through SFCC’s Centers of Excellence.
Funded through a grant provided by the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions, the Centers of Excellence at Santa Fe Community College offer programs on state-of-the-art biofuels production and algae cultivation and green building expertise. In addition, students can earn certification in radon and mold remediation and light commercial energy auditing. Scholarships are available for eligible students.
