    Event Description

Collected Works Bookstore presents Santa Fe local Sally Denton for a reading and discussion of her latest book, The Plots Against the President: FDR, A Nation in Crisis, and the Rise of the American Right.  In The Plots Against the President, investigative journalist Sally Denton regales readers with the true story of the forces that lashed out against Franklin Delano Roosevelt as he ascended to the Presidency.  Though he was elected by a landslide in 1932, FDR's bold New Deal experiments provoked a backlash from both extremes of the political spectrum.  The extent to which FDR's opponents were willing to thwart him has never been fully explored.  Two startling events frame Denton's Plots Against the President: anarchist Giuseppe Zangara's attempt on FDR's life, and a plutocratic plot to overthro the government that would come to be known as the Wall Street Putsch.

Sally Denton is an award-winning author and investigative journalist local to Santa Fe.  Her books include The Pink Lady, Passion and Principle, Faith and Betrayal, American Massacre, The Bluegrass Conspiracy, and The Money and the Power (with Roger Morris).  She is a Guggenheim fellow and a public policy scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center.
