The Theatre Department at Northern New Mexico College brings the ghostly tale of La Llorona to the stage.

It begins with the smell of roasting chiles and the rustling of yellow cottonwood leaves as they tumble to the ground. As the days get shorter and the air takes on a chill, you know it is “The Season of La Llorona.”

This adaptation by Rudolfo Anaya takes a different spin on the classic tale of the weeping woman, one that will scare you and just might surprise you. Set in the Aztec capital on the eve of Spain’s conquest of Mexico, Anaya’s telling weaves together history, humor, and storytelling.

With a talented cast of NNMC students, and direction by Jonah Winn-Lenetsky, “The Season of La Llorona” is full of visually striking images and great performances. Be prepared for a spooky tale full of drama, suspense and humor. It will make you rethink the story of La Llorona.

"The Season of La Llorona" is not appropriate for children under seven. Tickets are $5 and NNMC students are admitted free.
