Live Music Festival
Internationally acclaimed guitarist Ryan McGarvey will headline Music on the Rocks, one of New Mexico’s most anticipated live music festivals, this Saturday at Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort. Although he’s shared the bill with Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, B.B. King, Joe Bonamassa, Government Mule, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds, he can’t wait to show off his “fiery guitar chops” in his home state.
On Saturday, August 24, Sipapu will feature nine concerts and some of the region’s favorite musicians, including The Ryan McGarvey Band. McGarvey and his band mates are home from a five-month European tour, but that doesn’t diminish their enthusiasm for playing the Music on the Rocks stage.
“We are very honored to be headlining the festival this year,” said McGarvey. “There are some great bands lined up, and I know it’s gonna be a rockin’ good time!”
Over the past decade, McGarvey has received increasingly impressive local, regional and national accolades. But it was Eric Clapton who propelled McGarvey to international acclaim when McGarvey was selected from over 4,500 musicians to perform at Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago. McGarvey refers to that accomplishment as “the springboard of a lifetime.”
“Being named Guitar Player Magazine’s Best New Talent 2013 was a life dream, a stunning moment,” said McGarvey. “Since I was 7 or 8 years old, I’ve read—memorized—Guitar Player Magazine’s Annual Readers Poll Issue.”
With their busy national and international tour schedule, The Ryan McGarvey Band has had to limit their New Mexico appearances, which makes their performance at the 4th annual Music on the Rocks a unique opportunity.
Sipapu welcomes back Music on the Rocks festival favorites Main Street Garage, Prudy Dimas, Steady Rollers, and Jenne McIntosh. Festival first-timers include the Sean Halen Band, Pawn Drive, Jeronimo Keith, and Eric George. In addition to the impressive line-up of musicians, the event offers a beer garden and wine tasting, festival food, and art in the meadow all at Sipapu’s unparalleled alpine venue at the foot of the mountain.
