The Schola Cantorum of Santa Fe celebrates Mother’s Day with a special concert in the beautiful Loretto Chapel in downtown Santa Fe on Sunday, May 13th at 7:00 pm. The historic and intimate Loretto Chapel, with some of the finest acoustics in Santa Fe, will echo with sacred a capella choral music of both the Old and New Worlds. Expect to hear sacred music devoted to the Virgin Mary from medieval and Renaissance Europe and Colonial New Spain, including selections by Spain’s 16th century music master Tomás Luis de Victoria, and Francisco López Capillas, chapel master of the Mexico City Cathedral. Enjoy medieval chants of devotion to the Virgin Mary from Ireland’s Dublin Troper, originally published in 1360 and Gregorio Allegri’s glorious masterpiece Miserere mei, Deus, originally composed for use in the Sistine Chapel in the 1600’s.
