This is the 3rd in the Adventures à la Carte event series benefitting Kitchen Angels.
Legendary potter Felipe Ortega teaches the art of crafting micaceous pottery. Felipe is an Apache medicine man and renowned micaceous clay potter, whose distinctive pottery is actively sought after by collectors and shown in museums throughout the world, including the Smithsonian Institute. Credited by many with reviving the art of the Apache Bean pot, our afternoon with Felipe will be a rich experience, immersed in Jicarilla Apache philosophy, culture and artistic understandings.
"Once you've tasted food cooked in micaceous pots, you'll be hooked," says Felipe of the fabulous menu he has planned. Carrying on a culinary tradition that dates back to the 11th century, Felipe will demonstrate how to cook delicious dishes in these beautiful pots as well as how he crafts his pottery, using the technique known as hand-coiling. This glimpse into a rich, authentic New Mexico art will take place at Felipe's La Madera home and studio and promises to be a day to remember.
Limited to 40 guests, but there are a few tickets left for this event. A full event will raise funds for 640 Kitchen Angel clients.
