Leahy (LAY-he): noun, verb, adjective.
A family. A musical group of brothers and sisters, a sound, a style of music, a way of life, a volcanic explosion of talent and energy, intense emotion, and feral passion.
When they opened for Shania Twain's world tour, the Los Angeles Times wrote: “... the musical heart of the evening was … Leahy, an eight-member brother and sister team from Canada whose fiddle-driven instrumental music is augmented by keyboards, percussion and step-dancing."
All that audiences need to do to understand the style that has come to be known as “Leahy” is look at their awards—Junos for Best New Group, Best Country Group, and Best Instrumental Album, the most played folk/roots song in Canada in 2004 and the Socan award for Folk/Jazz instrumentalist the following year. The story of this large musical family raised without a television on a farm in Ontario, Canada was also the subject of an Oscar-winning documentary aired on PBS.
The Leahy Family Celtic Holiday Concert is a multifaceted experience that takes audiences on a sensory and emotional ride through music, dance and song. Experience it for yourself!
