The “FORE Kids Golf Tournament” was the idea of City Councilor Peso Chavez in 1998. Councilor Chavez enlisted the assistance of his colleague Councilor Molly Whitted and the idea of the annual FORE KIDS Golf Tournament at Marty Sanchez Links, as well as 15 years that the City of Santa Fe's only municipal golf course has been open to the public making it Santa Fe's Golf Course of CHOICE!
The original idea was to hold an annual golf tournament that was:
• Plenty of food - “home of the triple green chile cheese burger”
• Prizes for everyone
With all money raised going directly to assist the youth of Santa Fe Since the inception of this tournament and its continuous growth, city councilor Matthew Ortiz introduced the idea of having the tournament support children and youth recreation programs at the Genoveva Chavez Community Center (GCCC) and the Municipal Recreation Complex (MRC). The tournament has raised enough money to provide thousands of scholarships for the youth of our city and county residents. The recipients of these scholarships allow our youth to use the facilities and programs at the GCCC, the golf program at Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe and play soccer under the AYSO league. Without these scholarships, many of our youth may never have the opportunity to enjoy these facilities and programs.
