Forbidden Jewish Operas

Event Description

The Santa Fe Opera Guild presents a program on operatic work that was condemned and almost lost simply because the composers were of Jewish ancestry. Professor Tom Franks, popular lecturer at the Santa Fe Opera pre-opera dinners, will explore the Nazi suppression of what they considered the "degenerate art" of composers such as Zemlinsky, Weill, Schrecker and Korngold. He will play excerpts from their work.
