Earlier this year as a part of SITE Santa Fe’s current exhibition Time-Lapse, Axle Contemporary set up a nomadic photo studio. We shot 566 black and white photographic portraits of the Santa Fe community (whoever stopped by). The "studio" was set up in front of eleven partner locations throughout the city over the course of 10 days. We began on a cold and snowy day, March 2nd, at SITE, for the March 2012 component of the Time-Lapse.
The publication of the book, E Pluribus Unum - Santa Fe, is a documentation and complete collection of all the portraits shot those wintry days. The book includes three essays: by Janet Dees, assistant curator at SITE, and one each by Jerry Wellman and Matthew Chase-Daniel, Axle Contemporary and E Pluribus Unum collaborators.
E Pluribus Unum: Santa Fe will be launched with a book signing, sponsored by SITE on May 12 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Tme Capsule lounge at SITE . Admission to SITE Santa Fe is free until noon. The E Pluribus Unum video, with all 566 portraits and an evolving composite image, will also be screening during the event.
