Event Description

Panel participants will discuss the diverse cultural approaches taken to address HIV/AIDS issues through traditional arts. Featured speakers are:

  • Fernando Casados, Southwest CARE Center
  • Kathy Wan Povi Sanchez, Tewa Women United
  • Darlene Hunt and Donald Chee, Diné College HIV Initiative
  • Program and HIV Peer Educator Project

These individuals and the programs they represent draw upon their heritage to address HIV/AIDS in their communities in culturally appropriate and sensitive ways. A Q & A follows. The event closes with a candlelight ceremony in the Labyrinth on Milner Plaza, just outside the museum. Those attending may create farolitos containing messages of support for those living with HIV or remembrances of those who have died of AIDS.
