Bulgarian jazz musician Theodosii Spassov plays kaval, an eight-holed wooden “shepherd’s flute”, one of the oldest instruments in Europe. His unique, rich synthesis of traditional folklore with jazz, fusion, and classical music will blend with the Steve Barta trio’s innovative American jazz interpretation.
Theodosii Spassov has more than 30 recordings and has performed in many countries around the globe. He has collaborated with such noted artists as Milcho Leviev, Dave Liebman, Jamey Haddad, Ennio Morricone, Trilok Gurtu, Rabih Abou-Khalil, Andy Sheppard, Kazumi Watanabe, Trio "Bulgarka", and Grammy-winning "Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares".
Pianist Steve Barta is a composer, recording artist, author, educator, and speaker. He has performed his original works as a solo artist, and with jazz ensembles and symphony orchestras. His musical influences include Brazilian, jazz, and classical. He recently toured extensively with flutist Herbie Mann’s band “Jasil Brazz”. One of his latest projects includes his arrangement of Claude Bolling’s Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano for jazz quartet, string quartet, and full orchestra.
