Pianist, composer, and leader of the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Brian Haas is set to release a new duet CD with Grammy-winning drummer Matt Chamberlain on October 15 on the Kinnara / Royal Potato / Red / MRI label. “Frames” is a through-composed work for piano and percussion featuring eleven unique compositions that spiral through the tempered scale. A suite equally inspired by stride piano masters Earl Hines, James P. Johnson, and Fats Waller, the early minimalist works of Philip Glass and Steve Reich, and the lush aesthetic of modernists James Blake, Flying Lotus and Nigel Godrich, “Frames” is eclectic, risky, intensely melodic, and tells the story of an imagined human life.
Preceding the release of “Frames,” Haas (a Santa Fe, NM resident) will be presenting 4 concerts in September with New Mexico drummer Dave Wayne in Santa Fe, Truth or Consequences, Taos, and Albuquerque:
