Event Description

In order to adapt to the increasing demands of this rapidly evolving environment, nonprofit boards need to strengthen their skills and enhance board engagement and leadership. This workshop has been designed to provide nonprofit board members with practical information, resources, tools, and practices that can help the nonprofits they serve accomplish their mission-related goals more effectively.

The morning session will cover an overview of board models and common challenges facing boards.  Participants will explore the following questions: How do board members add value to an organization? What are the duties of board members and how are they held accountable?  What are some common tensions between board members and executives?  What are the fiduciary, strategic and generative conversations that boards need to have?

The afternoon will be a practicum for executive directors and board chairs.  The session will be spent developing practical strategies to address your own organization’s board-related challenges.   Participants will work with peers and the trainer to apply the outcomes of the training to the particular needs of your organization.
