Born in Germany, flutist and saxophonist, Biggi Vinkeloe is a free-jazz player who studied and lived in France for many years and is now based in Sweden. She has recorded nearly 20 albums, has performed throughout the world, and has collaborated with scores of renowned musicians, dancers, choreographers and visual artists. In 2001, she and Albuquerque-based tuba player Mark Weaver joined double-bassist Damon Smith for a recording session at Scott Looney’s studio in Oakland, subsequently releasing it as a CD entitled Desert Sweets. Now, twelve years later, the trio is reconvening for performances in NM and Colorado. Opening for Desert Sweets Trio will be Contemporary Music Program Chair Steven Paxton, along with student composer Angelo Harmsworth, performing improvised works for piano and electronic sounds.
