Event Description

Our first event of the season is quickly approaching!
Battlefield New Mexico: The Civil War and More will be on May 4th & 5th, 2013! Join us for reenactments of Civil War battles fought in New Mexico, visit authentic encampments and living history displays, and enjoy fascinating presentations about the Civil War era.
  • Reenactments of the battles of Glorieta Pass and Apache Canyon, fought near Santa Fe in 1862
  • Military drills and cannon fire
  • Union and Confederate Camps
  • Music by the Territorial Brass Band
  • Civil War era living history demonstrations
  • Talk about Civil War era medicine and surgery on Sunday
  • “And more”: Buffalo Soldiers and Spanish Presidio Soldiers on Saturday

10:30 Battalion Formation – Unit Drill
11:00 Living History demonstration in camp
11:30 Civil War era Fashion Show
1:00 on Living History: demonstrations on ladies’ life in the Civil War era
2:00 Battle re-enactment, representing the Battle of Apache Canyon
Followed by Q & A. Presented by the 1st New Mexico Volunteer Infantry
3:00 Living History/ Demonstrations in Camp
3:00 Presentation: “Victorian Life” in the Education Center

11:00 “Civil War Medicine” by Dr. Bob Mallin in the Education Center
12:00- 1:00 The New Mexico Territorial Brass band, playing Civil War era music
1:15 Presentation: “Victorian Life” in the Education Center
