Author and Playwright Rosemary Zibart will talk about her new book Forced Journey: The Saga of Werner Berlinger at an event hosted by the Santa Fe Youth Writers Group at Collected Works Bookstore in Santa Fe.
In Forced Journey, a 12-year-old Jewish boy travels from Hamburg to New York City in 1939 and struggles to make a new life for himself.
A special guest – long-time Santa Fe resident Gunther Aron–will speak about his boyhood experiences of growing up in Nazi Germany and leaving as a teenager for England in 1939. His three siblings also escaped—each in a different direction.
Members of the Santa Fe Youth Writers Group will facilitate the gathering.
Forced Journey is the second in the Far and Away Series about children dislocated by World War II. The first novel in the series, True Brit –about a young girl who flees war-torn London and travels to Santa Fe–won the 2012 New Mexico Book Award for Historical Fiction and received the Silver Nautilus Award given to books that promote social change and inspire readers to imagine a better world.
