Event Description

Muse Times Two presents the second reading of the Spring 2013 series.

Arda Collins was the 2008 winner of the annual Yale Series of Younger Poets competition. In her Foreword, contest judge Louise Glück observed, “I know no poet whose sense of fraud, the inflated emptiness that substitutes for feeling, is more acute.” Glück calls Collins’ volume “savage, desolate, brutally ironic . . . a book of astonishing originality and intensity, unprecedented, unrepeatable.” Collins’ poems have been published in journals and magazines including The New Yorker, The American Poetry Review, A Public Space, and others. She is a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop where she was a Glenn Schaeffer Fellow.

Kathryn Ugoretz is the author of The Courtship and Other Tales from Bright Hill Press. Gary Short calls her book “smart, uninhibited, and brave. Kathryn Ugoretz volleys deftly between satisfaction and surprise. We will recognize the world of these poems, but the normal won't stand still, and the result is unpredictable and delightful.” Ugoretz is the Guts y Girls coordinator at the Santa Fe Institute, a science, technology, math and engineering (STEM) program for 6th-8th grade girls in New Mexico.

Muse Times Two brings new or under-known poetic voices from around the nation to Santa Fe to present their original works. Out-of-town headliners are paired with local poets from New Mexico to enhance both our local and national literary communities. Through such poetic cross pollination, the rich literary heritage of New Mexico meets the national heritage for a vibrant literary experience.

*Muse Times Two is a project of Lore of the Land, Inc., a nonprofit 501c3 organization.  Donations in support of this poetry program are tax-deductible under the IRS Code.
