Event Description

What do Valerie Plame Wilson, Santa Fe Community College and our youngest Santa Feans have in common?  Many Mothers is hosting them all on Mother’s Day weekend.  On Friday, May 11, Valerie Plame Wilson will be the guest speaker at the Many Mothers’ fund raiser in the Jemez Room at the Santa Fe Community College.  Mrs. Plame Wilson, a former covert CIA operations officer who worked to protect national security, best-selling author and mother of twins, currently serves on the President’s Advisory Council of Postpartum Support International, works as a community outreach director at the Santa Fe Institute and is actively involved in local public school reform.  Valerie Plame Wilson will share her wide-ranging experiences and insights during Many Mothers’ Reception.

Like the guest speaker, the newly designed campus of SFCC is a vibrant addition to the Santa Fe
community. Under the guidance of lead instructor Michelle Roetze, talented student chefs from
the Culinary Arts Program will offer creative appetizers during the reception and silent auction.

And our youngest Santa Feans? A new baby thrives on love and attention. So does a new mother.  For 11 years this nonprofit has provided free support to Santa Fe area families with newborns.  Many Mothers knows how exhausted and overwhelmed mothers can feel after the birth of a baby. We honor the work it takes to bring a child into this world, so our loving and skilled volunteers nurture the mom so she can better nurture her baby. This vital service is provided free of charge to all income levels to any family with a newborn.   Many Mothers’ community outreach includes the Many Mothers Circle, a monthly support group in a baby-friendly atmosphere that allows mothers to receive information and to network with other mothers. Our community of mothers served also gives back to the community at large by donating gently used clothing, equipment and baby items through our Pay-It-Forward program. We redistribute these items at the monthly Circle meetings, as well as to teen parents at the Santa Fe High Teen-Parent Center,  Casa Familia,  Bienvenidos and to La Familia Medical Center. The Many Mothers’ HooP House program supplies families with greenhouse gardens so they can grow fresh vegetables and share the surplus with other families.  In 2011, twelve (12) families have  received the greenhouses and two (2) additional greenhouses were given to the Teen-Parent Center.
