The Pueblo of Pojoaque Boys & Girls Club & Teen Center's
14th Annual Christmas Toy Giveaway. This event is one of a kind in Northern New Mexico if not in the entire State of New Mexico. Our Club hosts a motorcycle toy run each October to collect toys for the Club members and the less fortunate in this area. By far it is one of the largest toy runs in this area. We donate these toys to area schools and other non-profit agencies in need. The toys that are left over, well over several hundred, are then loaded onto a Santa Fe County Fire truck and distributed to local children door to door on one particular night. We have the assistance of the SF County Fire Department, the US Army and the local Pojoaque Tribal Police. We leave the Club around 5:00pm and return around midnight. Last year we distributed toys (hundreds) to kids in Pojoaque, Nambe Pueblo and Tesuque. This year we will do the same but will also add San Ildelfonso Pueblo to that list. This has turned into a huge event in the past with motorists stopping on the side of the roads with their children so Santa can pass out a toy to them at Christmas. What a cool sight and "lifelong memory" for these kids as they tell stories to their kids and grandkids someday that Santa came to their own house on a fire truck. A very uplifting and fun event for everyone.
