DetailsThis exhibition features a rare collection of first edition piano vocal scores, printed in very small numbers to coincide with the premiere of an opera. The collection consists of 85 operas, many of which are signed, annotated copies, often belonging to a singer performing in the particular opera and/or to noted personalities in the music world at the time of the premiere. There are references to the five operas featured at the Santa Fe Opera this season, including first editions by Mozart, Verdi, and Donizetti. Also included is the first edition of Sommerset Maugham’s The Casurina Tree (1926), in which the story, The Letter, first appeared. The opera based on this story by composer, Paul Moravec, and librettist, Terry Teachout, with costumes by Tom Ford, makes its world premiere in Santa Fe on July 25. Other rare books on music include a signed program, Louis Armstrong and His Concert Group, 1924; the score from South Pacific, A Musical Play, 1949; Rhapsody in Blue for Jazz Band and Piano, 1924; and various ephemera.

The four artists have differing backgrounds and life experiences, yet their work investigates common themes: land, identity, memory, history, and the recovery and reclamation of a decolonized self. Opens with a special preview for Museum members June 26 from 3 - 5 p.m. and to the public from 5 - 7 p.m.

DetailsSanta Fe Artist Market will be on the Railyard, each Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm on the Railyard Plaza, until December 19th. The market is in its 7th season and features local artists from Northern New Mexico. You will be able to meet the artists as they display their fine arts, jewelry, photography, carvings, woodworking and many other kinds of creative art work.
