Bad Words (2014) C-89min. D: Jason Bateman. Jason Bateman. Bateman’s directorial debut, in a comedy about a loser who discovers a loophole in Spelling Bee rules about age limits, and goes for the g-o-l-d. [R]

Caught (1948) B&W-88min. D: Max Ophuls. James Mason, Barbara Bel Geddes, Robert Ryan. Noir classic about a hasty wedding, soon regretted.

Great Race, The (1965) C-160min. D: Blake Edwards. Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, Natalie Wood. Funny movie, one of our faves, and well worth it if only for Jack Lemmon’s dual roles.

Jodorowsky’s Dune (2014) C-90min. D: Frank Pavich. Documentary about one of the greatest movies never made, a proposed 1975 adaptation of the Frank Herbert sci-fi classic, imagined by Alejandro Jodorowsky (El Topo) and envisioned by the late designer H.R. Giger (Alien). [PG-13]

Le Week-End (2014-Brit) C-93min. D: Roger Michell. Jim Broadbent, Lindsay Duncan, Jeff Goldblum. A British couple returns to Paris for a second honeymoon, hoping to rekindle that old feeling. [R]

Nymphomaniac v. 1 (2014-Denmark-France-Germany-Belgium) C-117min. D,Sc: Lars von Trier. Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Shia La Beouf, Christian Slater, Uma Thurman, Willem Dafoe et al, all of whose hardcore sex scenes are body-doubled. [NR]

Nymphomaniac v. 2 (2014-Denmark-France-Germany-Belgium) C-124min. More, if you must.

Operation Petticoat (1959) C-122min. D: Blake Edwards. Cary Grant, Tony Curtis. The inspiration for Curtis’ impersonation of Cary in Some Like It Hot had its genesis here in this WW2 submarine comedy, when the former found himself working with his idol, the latter.

The Raid 2 (2014-Indonesia) C-150min. D,Sc,Ed: Gareth Huw Evans. Iko Uwais. Incredible sequel, absolutely incredible. [R]
