'The job as marketing director is a revolving door at many casinos.'
The job as marketing director is a revolving door at many casinos. In New Mexico the average director of marketing lasts about two years. There are exceptions. The marketing director at Camel Rock has exceeded that time frame. And at Ohkay Casino, Peter Trujillo is back at his old job (yours truly spent ten years marketing the Pueblo of Pojoaque’s gaming operations).
Trujillo, who hails from northern New Mexico, was at Cities of Gold Casino in Pojoaque for many years before getting the top job at Ohkay Casino. He was gone after a couple of years but now is back at the north Espanola area casino.
Promotion-wise, Ohkay’s big August giveaway is known as the “Treasures of New Mexico.” Ohkay will be giving away over 120 bars of pure silver ranging in weight from one ounce to 100 ounces. Drawings will be held every Saturday starting Aug. 10 with the grand finale on Sept. 1.
Other promotions include a chance to win $100 in cash or free slot play every Thursday night by simply swiping your player’s card.
Closer to Santa Fe, Camel Rock Casino’s August promotion is being called “$40,000 Take or Trade” and takes place everyFriday in August. There will be two $50 hot seat drawings every hour between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. and prize and cash drawing every half hour between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
The Tesuque casino also is hosting the $10,000 Outlaw Blackjack Tournament every Saturday through the end of August. The finals will be held on Sept. 8 with the top 49 scores returning on Sept. 7 and will be vying for $10,000 in cash prizes.
Camel Rock also is the place to be on Labor Day weekend with $1 hot dogs, gas discounts and 3x, 4x and 5x points.
Most casino promotions require membership in the free players club. Rules for each contest are either posted or available at the promotions booth and/or players club.
