Susie Morgan is a lifetime lover of horses, the outdoors and lives for adventures. She lives in Las Campanas, and is reconnecting with horses after working 27 years in New York City.
In these days of fast food and instantaneous breaking news from the Internet and 24/7 TV, it's heartwarming to find someone practicing their trade as it was done decades ago.
Farrier Bill Boyd still crafts each horseshoe from straight bar stock rather than buying prefab shoe blanks in various sizes, then making any small modifications when the horse is at hand. Boyd is a longtime area resident who has been shoeing horses around Santa Fe since 1971.
He is also a horseman frequently spotted on trails with friends in the backcountry. So watch for Boyd when you are out riding – he just might be passing by!
