In these days of fast food and instantaneous breaking news from the Internet and 24/7 TV, it's heartwarming to find someone practicing their trade as it was done decades ago.

Farrier Bill Boyd still crafts each horseshoe from straight bar stock rather than buying prefab shoe blanks in various sizes, then making any small modifications when the horse is at hand. Boyd is a longtime area resident who has been shoeing horses around Santa Fe since 1971.

He is also a horseman frequently spotted on trails with friends in the backcountry. So watch for Boyd  when you are out riding – he just might be passing by!
