Santa Fe Music Videos has released its first big production music video shot in New Mexico. The four-and-a-half-minute music video features Santa Fe musician Faith Amour singing her original composition, "Love and Light."
"We couldn't be more pleased," says Eric Heithaus, who moved to Santa Fe from Tucson with his wife, Amy, a year ago to launch Santa Fe Music Videos. "It's a pleasure to work with such a talented artist as Faith. We were very lucky to meet Faith when we first moved here. She has a beautiful voice and is a gifted song writer and performer."
The music for "Love and Light" was arranged and produced by Jeff Nelson and vocals were recorded at Stepbridge Studios in Santa Fe. The video was shot at UPublic, Albuquerque's new public channel. "Jeff did an amazing job of arranging Faith's song and Faith did a great job arranging the vocals and singing on it," Heithaus says. "We were also very impressed with Toby Younis, the director of photography at UPublic, and their studio. They did a great job."
The Heithauses met Amour when she was performing a holiday concert with her students at Vanessies. "She's got an incredible voice and she really connected with the audience," Heithaus says. The couple approached her after the concert and said they really liked what she was doing and they wanted to support her.
The collaboration ensued and after Amour presented some songs to the couple, the three of them chose "Love and Light," a universal song about winter. It was born from a moment of inspiration and it celebrates the joys and beauty of the winter season. "We all picked this song because of its universal theme," says Amour. "It was funny because I had my students perform this piece a few years before. I wrote it as part of our holiday musical and we revamped it for the recording."
Amour, who is from Toronto, Canada, moved to Santa Fe nine years ago to take a job as a music teacher. She grew up with songs in her soul, singing in her church choir and also at weddings and other special events at a young age. She's been writing music since she was 7, and won numerous music writing contests in Canada.
For years, Amour has been writing holiday music and Christmas carols for four voices—soprano, alto, tenor and bass. This year, some of her music—including one of her first award-winning songs, "I Saw the Star"—was performed at the Scottish rite temple by the Zia Singers and the Santa Fe Men's Camarada.
Amour travels to Kenya with a local group in February for a 10-day trip to do medical work in Nairobi. She also hopes to collaborate on music with the residents there. She's currently working on an album to be released this summer and she will open the summer concert series Music on the Hill at St. John's College on June 12.
Santa Fe Music Videos has created more than 50 music videos in its first year here alone, including music videos for the Santa Fe Bandstand summer series on the Plaza, which are posted on SantaFe.Com. The company's videos also air on public broadcast channels across the country, including Manhattan and Boston.
The Heithauses chose to move to Santa Fe because of our city's diverse and vibrant music community. "We support the local musicians and we really want Santa Fe to become a music destination." says Heithaus.
