"The popular gala event attracts a big crowd as home grown Hispano musicians honor their music and their own"
Ohkay Casino and Conference Center will be the site for the 21st Annual New Mexico Hispano Music Awards on January 21. The popular gala event attracts a big crowd as home grown Hispano musicians honor their music and their own. Tickets are $30 each and are available at www.nmha.org and at other ticket locations.
On the gaming side in January, the popular north Espanola casino also is giving away cash and bonus/free slot play via “hot seat” drawings on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays known as:
- “$12,000 Over the Top Tuesdays”; $3,000 cash given aways every Tuesday from 3:30 pm. To 9 p.m. To win, one must have a free player’s card properly inserted in the gaming machine and be actively playing (means you just can’t sit there). The casino’s computer system has a program that randomly selects an active machine and that person wins cash. Check with the player's club/promotions booth for all rules and regulations.
- “$12,000 Friday Hot Seat Tournaments” held from noon to 8 p.m.
- “12,000 Pick-A-Snowman Saturdays” held from 3 to 10 p.m.
Ohkay also has a multi-month promotion in which the winner will have his or her choice of a $40,000 manufactured home, a new GMC 4x4 truck or $20,000 cash. Members of the free players club who earn points on their cards participating in the various gaming options can earn entries. The prizes will be given away in March.
In the pit, Ohkay has $3 black jack from 3 to 5 p.m., and every Saturday there is a black jack tournament with a $20 buy-in. Winner gets 50 percent of total buy in, 30% to second place and 20% for third.
Ohkay Casino and Conference Center is located north of Espanola on New Mexico Highway 68, the road to Taos.
