drifting in dream deep conversations
painters discussing new directions
where old identities
yearn to dissolve
into new voices
images emerge

rain gently falls
outside my window
softly calling us
back
here
to listen, and
awaken

rain?
can this be true?
as if i had
just crossed
a vast dry hard earth desert
i rush to the door
to confirm

the cats leap outside
amazed
rain is falling
and then
disappears

but the brilliant
intensely colored
garden
soaks up the whole shower!
fresh
early morning
vibrant
plants sing and rejoice.

what is New Mexico
without the
next act?
clouds rapidly changing
moving
more rain?
no
wind surging
twisting branches
(jumping cats wild with delight!)
momentary peace
disappears instantly
as do scattered
and fractured thoughts.

i leave
a box of
chocolate strawberries
and pastry
in a plastic bag
attached to the truck door
for a friend.
