"Unlock the Hidden Job Market: 6 Steps to a Successful Job Search When Times Are Tough" by Duncan Mathison and Martha Finney (FT Press, 2009)

With all the struggles people have had finding work in the current economy, I was delighted to find this timely and very practical book, written in such a clear and concise manner. A lot of my mature clients who never had trouble finding work before are discouraged by all the changes in the job search market that have created effective barriers to their success, until they learn the new "rules of engagement" that are explained here. The idea of networking isn't new, but how it's done today is, and it's a baffling process to most folks.  This book spells it out well.

My clients continue to report back that Unlock the Hidden Job Market has opened their eyes and shown them exactly what they need to do. It also reinforces much of what I teach. This book is a key tool in my job search strategies toolbox that I recommend it to all my clients.

Martha Finney is a Santa Fe writer with other excellent career books under her belt including Rebound; A Proven Plan for Starting Over After Job Loss (FT Press 2009) and HR from the Heart: Inspiring Stories and Strategies for Building the People Side of Great Business (AMACOM, 2003).  Unlock the Hidden Job Market and Rebound are available for check out at the Santa Fe Public Library.  All her books are available, new and used, via Amazon.com.
