"Promotions, fireworks, mark Buffalo Thunder anniversary"
The majestic Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino north of Santa Fe opened its doors to the public three years ago, drawing huge crowds and earning raves as the premier gaming facility in northern New Mexico. To celebrate its three year anniversary, Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino (BTR) is partnering with its sister casino, the Cities of Gold (COG), for the “$200,000 Hit the Road Giveaway,” in which an RV will be given away every Saturday through September 3. And, as they did on their grand opening weekend, BTR is offering a fireworks extravaganza on Sunday, September 4 beginning at dusk.
In addition to the RV prizes, the casinos are giving away up to $50 in free play every day between 4 and 8 p.m. Free slot play is basically playing with the casino’s nickel. If you were to win $50 in free slot play you simply download some or all of it to most gaming machines and then play away. One cannot cash out free slot play, but any winnings are yours.
As with just about every promotion, one earns entries (and redeemable points) to the giveaways by signing up and inserting the player’s card into the gaming machine and/or providing your card to table game personnel so they can track your play. Your odds of winning improve the more you play and the more entries you earn. It’s just like the lottery. You can buy one ticket or you can buy 500 tickets. Obviously your chance of winning is much higher if you have 500 tickets.
In days of yore, customers who earned entries were given printed tickets that were put in large plastic or metal drums. Now at most casinos, it is done electronically. All entries are entered into a computer and using a random selection program, the winning “ticket” is chosen. In most cases the person whose tickets have been drawn must be present to win. If they are not, another “ticket” many times is drawn. Rules for all contests should be posted at the promotions or players club area, or should be available for review for the asking.
Many casinos make it worth your while to sign up for a player’s card. If you are age 21 or older and have a valid ID, you can sign up for a card and most casinos will give you free play to get you started. At BTR you could win up to $500 in free play just for signing up. And there are other benefits as well at BTR when you sign up for a Players Club card as you can get a members-only $59 room rate at the hotel.
Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino, located in Pojoaque on Highway 84/285 about 13 miles north of downtown Santa Fe, is the largest and newest casino in northern New Mexico with 1,140 gaming machines, the largest table game area (black jack, craps, roulette, 3-Card Poker) and the only poker room north of Albuquerque.
Other BTR amenities include:
