"Camel Rock was the first modern casino built in northern New Mexico..."
The word advertising and marketing experts use to set their business apart is “branding, and Camel Rock Casino, located just north of Santa Fe, has positioned itself as the casino of choice for locals.
Faced with new competition from bigger resorts with golf, hotels and spas, the Tesuque gambling venue has set itself apart with an effective advertising campaign aimed directly at the population of Santa Fe, the largest city in northern New Mexico.
In addition to having the best geographical reference---the amazing natural rock formation that looks unmistakably like a camel---Camel Rock Casino is also the closest active gambling venue to Santa Fe (11 miles north of the Plaza on Highway 84/285).
But advertising and proximity don’t always guarantee success. It still takes a good mix of gaming machines, good player’s club benefits, solid promotions, food and entertainment. Camel Rock has seemingly put it all together.
Camel Rock was the first modern casino built in northern New Mexico (the Cities of Gold Casino in Pojoaque was the first casino to go on line, but it was put in an old school building). The attractive Camel Rock structure included room for 500 gaming machines, 3-card poker, black jack tables, a restaurant, snack bar and a 10,000 square foot room---the Rock Showroom---that is used as an entertainment venue and other functions.
The Pueblo Artist Café is the larger of the food locations. Customers can also get goodies at the Oasis Snack Bar.
Like most casinos, Camel Rock has a big monthly giveaway. The big April promotion is called the $50,000 April EGGstravaganza. Every Friday through Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., one casino customer gets to select an Easter egg that could be worth up to $100. They also will get an entry into the $10,000 grand drawings to be held on April 29.
Camel Rock also has a table games promotion---the $3,000 Spring Blackjack Tournament. Players who get a blackjack or a suited “Lucky Ladies” payout get one entry. A “Matched Lucky Ladies” win is worth three entries and a “Queen of Hearts Lucky Lady” payout gets the winner ten entries. The tournament will be held on April 28 with a $1,500 first prize guarantee. Lucky Ladies Black Jack follows the same rules as regular Black Jack with addition of a bonus bet option. If you get any combination that adds up to 20 on your first two cards, you win. A “Matched Lucky Ladies is when both cards are the same (two tens, two jacks, etc.). Obviously a “Queen of Hearts Lucky Lady” means both cards are the queen of hearts.
Other gaming promotions in April at Camel Rock:
- Bounce Back Tuesdays. Players earning 40 points on Tuesday earn free slot play the following Friday.
- Tax Day Gift Special. Earn 20 points on April 15 and get a free gift.
- Wednesday Gift of the Week. Earn 40 points on Wednesdays and get a free gift.
Most promotions require free membership in Club Rock, the player’s club. Rules for all promotions are usually available at the player’s club/promotions area.
Camel Rock has scheduled entertainment for dancing on Fridays beginning April 13 with Cuarenta y Cinco. Perfect Stranger will play on April 20 and Gonzalo on April 27. The dance takes place from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Rock Showroom.
