Spring has sprung and warmer weather is good for casino business. The Santa Fe/Española area casinos (those that provided Enchanted Odds with information) are being very active as they ramp up their gaming and entertainment.
The Santa Claran Hotel and Casino in is all about daily promotions with an emphasis on weekends. The downtown Española casino is calling its Friday and Saturday promotion “April Showers of Cash.” Every Friday and Saturday in April one winner will be selected every hour between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. who can win up to $2,500 in cash. On Saturday nights two winners will be selected each hour. Entries are earned for every 50 points accumulated. Each casino has different criteria for earning points, but all require free membership in the players club. Most casinos post all the details at or near the players club.
The casino offers free crap game instructions every Friday and Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Santa Claran also has a new slot machine, the One Red Cent Deluxe.
On the entertainment front, The Santa Claran is hosting the Española Valley 7th Annual Chili Bowl Cook Off on Saturday, April 13 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The fundraiser, which benefits the San Martin de Porres Soup Kitchen, has a $10 entry fee; $3 for children age 10 and under.
The Thursday night dances featuring local bands continue. The event is free to persons age 21 and older and there is a dress code. The event starts at 8 p.m.
And, get ready for the big pay-per-view boxing match on Saturday, May 4 in the Sports Bar. The fight, part of Cinco de Mayo activities, pits Floyd Mayweather vs. Robert Guerrero and Saul Alvarez vs. Las Cruces’ Austin Trout.
Ohkay Casino, located north of Española continues it $1 Million Prize Vault giveaway in April. Every Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. gamers can play up to five times every day for a chance to crack the vault for the big prize, $1,000 in cash and other instant prizes.
The big event at Ohkay is the April 13 concert/dance featuring the popular Tex-Mex group, Little Joe y La Familia. Tickets start at $20 with dinner and hotel packages available.
Live entertainment also is featured every Friday and Saturday nights at Club X.
